Welch Allyn is one of the few, larger profitable companies to enter the vision screening arena. W-A makes several models of retinoscopes which are the most important tool during Confirmatory Exams, and in the hands of experienced eye professionals (like VIPS, Eibschitz) can provide valid objective screening through dynamic retinoscopy. W-A also makes the initial model of "SureSight", a remote autorefractor that was internally calibrated in VIPS resulting in relativley high initial sensitivity. We urge Welch Allyn to continue investing in vision screening, to improve the Suresight and allow user-definable SPECIFIC referral criteria to reduce false positive over-referral.
