Impact of first screening age

Home
The average acuity gained after treatment of an average amblyopic eye is influenced by the age at initial, deliberate screening. Acuity screening is fairly efficient after kindergarten, but can be done with effort in 4-year-olds, and about 3/4 of 3-year-olds. Photoscreening gives valid results at most pre-school ages after age 6-9 months. Deliberate photoscreening at the time of immunizations, ie age 12 - 18 months promises to yield better eventual average acuity.
